On
this page are newspaper clippings, photos, wrestling program out takes, and
other articles cover Les' life in and out of the ring. Until these are separated
and placed on their proper pages this will give you some of the highlights to
look for while taking this walk down memory lane.
Near
the top of the page are clippings from Les' stay in Florida during 1967 and
wrestling for the Tampa office CWF(Championship Wrestling from Florida) and was
presented the "NWA Rookie of the Year" award on television by Gordon
Solie. You'll see where they are preparing for a Junior Heavyweight Title match
between Thatcher and then World Champ, Danny Hodge. You'll see where he is
teaming with "Wrestling Cousin" Roger Kirby (Kirby wins that same Jr.
Title almost ten years later) and they are involved in a story line with the
team of Hiro Matsuda (former Jr.World Champ) and Ronnie Garvin (Years later to
hold the NWA World Heavyweight Title) which played out in several Florida
cities.
Look
for a story from Wrestling Revue Magazine (the top news stand wrestling
publication of it's time) which covers a match between Les and Danny Hodge held
in 1975 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Hodge was a heel at this time and it
was the only time in his career.
You
will find out takes from a Memphis, Tennessee wrestling program where Thatcher
is to battle Corsica Joe in the finals of the annual Chip Barwick (local Chevy
dealer) Chevrolet Tournament. The winner received a new "69" Chevy,
and Les takes it home. (sidebar here. Les had just purchased a new Pontiac
Bonneville) so let "Cousin" Dennis Hall buy the Chevy at cost).
There
is the first page of a feature "Wrestling Revue" article about the
"Wrestling Cousins" and their fued with "The Dirty Dalton's and
Bull Ramos, showing Dennis, Les, and Roger eating lunch.
Near
the bottom is an article about Les being involved in designing, building, and
running a new bodybuilding gym in Cincinnati, back in the late "80's".
Here
is a magazine story written by Thatcher about four of his friends Scott Casey,
Sonny King, Ed Wiskoski, and Bill Ash (Les just spent time with Scott & Ed
in Las Vegas at the 04 CAC convention)about their upward movement in the
wrestling game over a ten year period. enjoy the history covered on this page.
